SEMINAR:A MEASURE OF DANGER BY JAY KLAGES

Any professional knows what happens in a seminar.  You go in and a facilitator, usually hired by your company talks about teamwork, and how great you are and blah blah blah.  In the book SEMINAR: A MEASURE OF DANGER BY JAY KLAGES,the seminar that Wade Rooker joins is not your dull boring seminar.  The book or prequel, starts out innocent enough but when the story gets going you are thinking that this is the seminar from hell!

Loved this prequel and cant wait to find more of the series. The author gives you just enough information and then wham, cuts the reader off so you are left hanging wanting to read more.

WHO SLAYS THE WICKET (SEBASTIAN ST. CYR,#14) BY C.S. HARRIS

WHO SLAYS THE WICKET (SEBASTIAN ST. CYR,#14) BY C.S. HARRIS is the first of this authors mysteries I have read,so I dont have anything to compare it to.

The plot:  Lord Ashworth, evil Ashworth has been murdered along with his valet. Ashworth has a history with St.Cyr as Ashworth was involved in the murdering of young street children.  Ashworth is evil on this planet.  Not only does he rape women, murder children abuse his wife but he has most of London's merchants mad at him for non payment.
Ashworth is the perfect victim: everyone he meets hates him, including St.Cyr whose niece is his wife.  St.Cyr has a job to do , find the murderer even if it is his niece.
Involved in his investigations are not only his niece and every merchant in London but the sister of the Tzar Alexander and one of her consorts !

The story was good but some parts of the story drags a bit. Once I got beyond that it was a really good read. By the way,I knew who did it after chapter 20 but like the saying goes getting there is half the fun and even the low, slow points will not stop me from reading more of Harris's St.Cyr books.

BRAD MELTZER & JOSH MENSCH THE FIRST CONSPIRACY;THE SECRET PLOT TO KILL GEORGE WASHINGTON

"This book started as a detective story.Nearly a decade ago, I found my first clues where all the best clues are found, in the footnotes"  That line is the very first sentence in BRAD MELTZER'S newest book: THE FIRST CONSPIRACY THE SECRET PLOT TO KILL GEORGE WASHING.  Mr. Meltzer, along with noted historian,Josh Mensch uncover and write about the one of the most important footnotes in history:  the plot to kill George Washington.   From the moment our great country is formed by a group of men to the start of the WAR FOR OUR INDEPENDENCE, we get a vivid picture of  Washington and his literally ragtag group of men who want freedom for our nation.  We hear of the starvation, the disease and yes the plot by the Loyalists to not only kill Washington but to sabotage the battle for New York .  We meet the principal players in the plot.  We learn, from a man jailed for counterfeiting the beginnings of the plot.  We meet the good guys and the bad. Washington, the Commander in Chief of our army to Governor Tyron the man in the shadows plotting and planning against Washington.

What a huge piece of history Mr.Meltzer and Mr Mensch have written about in this book.  I loved every minute and the authors put the reader right there.  Whether its Washington writing to the Continental Congress or the soldiers drinking in the taverns and making deals with the devil, this book takes you there.  It gives you not only history but it gives you such a story that I could not put it down.

SUBTERRANEAN BY JAMES ROLLINS

SUBTERRANEAN BY JAMES ROLLINS is the first book of his I have read. It wont be the last.  Every page brings a new meaning to the word thriller!  Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next, Rollins put another twist to the plot!

A group of scientists and military are in Antarctica, miles beneath the surface of the earth looking not only for signs of a team that went missing, but studying the newly found civilization and life that dwells under the ice.  Sounds quite boring right?  Wrong!  Things get downright deadly for the group and science is the last thing on their mind when the bodies start piling up.

If you like the fast pace thrill ride books you will love SUBTERRANEAN BY JAMES ROLLINS.

ST CATHERINE'S CROWN BY S MARTIN SHELTON

ST CATHERINE'S CROWN BY S. MARTIN SHELTON is a historical fiction in which Princess Anastasia Romanov survived the murder of her family back in 1918.  In the novel Anastasia is gravely wounded and is cared for and nursed back to health by the Czechs aboard a traveling hospital train.  During her stay she changes not only her name but her looks to become another person as she knows she is still being hunted down.

I love historical fiction and ST CATHERINE'S CROWN is no different.  The author plunges the reader back into old Russia. You can feel and "see" what the conditions and the lives were for the people trying to survive Lenin's nightmare.  I had to keep reminding myself that this is a work of fiction not real.  Real or not,the author did a great job at putting the reader into the story.    In all fairness , there are a few spots in the book, not many where it got to be a little slow but all in all well worth the read if you love historical fiction.
