What an outstanding and eye opening book! This book should be read by world leaders and school children as well. MIDNIGHT IN CHERNOBYL:THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE WORLDS GREATEST NUCLEAR DISASTER BY ADAM HIGGINBOTHAM goes beyond the disaster. From the moment the construction of the plant to the horrible aftermath and beyond, the book takes readers from the beginning to today. This accident was not just a local mess, to be cleaned up and forgotten . This is a disaster that is STILL an issue thirty-three years later and for the next hundred years. The book shows the real story, the pressures the builder was under to get the job done on time and on budget no matter the outcome.
Slipshod work, cut corners and bad decisions are what caused Unit Four to explode sending its deadly mixture of radiation circling the globe. The coverup , the concern about secrecy not lives. Mr. Higginbotham has taken the veil of secrecy,if you will ,and tossed it out. He has put a face on the people who not only precipitated this disaster, but the victims who are still dealing with it and will for decades.
Chernobyl has always fascinated me as it has many others. I am neutral on building reactors for energy, well I was until I read this book! Now I'm not so sure. This book should be a siren and a wakeup call to what can happen when the nuclear genie is let out of the bottle.
It is an awesome book and it should be read by all no matter what your views on clean energy are. It scared the beejees out of me! And as a book it is more scary than ANY horror story out there, because it happened.

SHADOW BOY BY SUSAN E KIRBY
Our local library is doing its February "blind date with a book" program and the book SHADOW BOY BY SUSAN E KIRBY was on of my "dates." SHADOW BOY is a YA book about a teen boy who, on his skateboard suffers a traumatic and horrible brain injury. He has to learn to walk, talk and do all the mundane things we take for granted all over again. His memory has been erased as well. The story progresses on with him coming home and finally overcoming the injury.
Not being a YA any more you would think I would never enjoy it but let me tell you it was one of the best books I have read in awhile. It was so good and yes it was short, I read it in only a few days. I was very impressed with it. The way the author tells the story as if SHE is the character makes it a very enjoyable book.

THE DROWNING BY J.P.SMITH
For those of us who went to some kind of summer camp, the scenario is well known. During the day its hiking , swimming and all kinds of great stuff. You make new friends and at the end of the camp you sit around the fire roasting marshmallows and singing. Then the camp counselor tells the spooky tale. You all know it. The tale about the creepy murderer or the old guy who lives alone who stalks and captures children. Well, in THE DROWNING BY J.P. SMITH the tale is creepy and the story which is supposed to just scare the kids is true, or is it?
Joey Proctor, eight years old, small even for his age & not many friends. His parents are have marital problems and they think it would be a grand idea for Joey to go to camp while they sort their problems out if they can. Joey is afraid to swim. He hates the water as a matter of fact, scared of it. His swim counselor, Alex Mason is damn determined to get Joey to swim from the raft to the shore even if it kills Joey. Mason decides to leave Joey and tells him sink or swim kid then goes back to his cabin. The next day Joey is missing. An exhausting search of the lake and the woods shows no Joey. End of story, right? Not even close. Mason leaves camp never to return years later he is successful, married with two lovely girls when his life takes a chilling turn. Someone out there wants Mason to pay for Joey's death buy taking away everything from him, or are they? And believe me I am NOT going to tell you the ending here. You have to read this yourself.
THE DROWNING rated a ten on my creeped out list of books that I will not forget anytime soon. Just when you think you have an idea who and what, the author tosses another wrench into the book and you sit there saying to yourself, really? The ending of THE DROWNING will knock your socks off ! What a great read. Everything in a scary , creepy mystery, suspense novel you would ever want. Dont miss this one folks.
I recieved this book free from goodreads in exchange for a review.

TRANSFER OF POWER BY VINCE FLYNN
TRANSFER OF POWER (MITCH RAPP #3) BY VINCE FLYNN is the first of this authors books I have read. LOVED every page of it. From the very beginning in the back alleyways of Iran or the White House in DC, TRANSFER OF POWER was dynamite all the way thru.
The White House has been overtaken by terrorists, many people dead or held hostage. The President is secure but for how long? Rapp along with a retired Secret Service agent go into the White House to not only save the President, but to rescue as many people as he can and kill the terrorists along the way.
Wow folks, Mr.Flynn's novels are not for the faint of heart. If you like a pulse pounding book, this one is it.
