PERISH FROM THE EARTH BY JONATHAN F PUTNAM

PERISH FROM THE EARTH BY JONATHAN F.PUTNAM is a genre cross LINCOLN AND SPEED book.
This Historical Fiction/Mystery set back in the 1830s, gives the reader an amusing look at Abe Lincoln, newly minted lawyer riding the trails and trials of rural Illinois. Mr. Lincoln at a stop in Alton, Illinois joins up with young Joshua Speed to figure out the mystery of the murder aboard Speeds fathers steamboat the WAR EAGLE.

I loved this book!  It does have the best of both worlds: historical fiction & a fairly good mystery.  It was amusing to read about the young Lincoln.  I felt like I had stepped back in time to listen to Mr.Lincoln defend the innocent & tell his tales of his very young life.

MY EX-BOYFRIEND IS A PIECE OF CR*P AND OTHER WHIMSICAL STORIES BY CHARI FRISKY

MY EX BOYFRIEND IS A PIECE OF CR*P AND OTHER WHIMSICAL STORIES BY CHARLI FRISKY, is definitely not your typical piece of literature. Actually, I'm not really sure if it is literature in any sense!  One thing about it is though, it is DIFFERENT!   I read this book in an hour but took several days trying to figure out what to say in this review, so here goes. It is definitely strange! But in a strange way that makes you want to remember the stories and take a few days to figure out what to say. I guess if I am forced to give an opine on this book I'd say that you definitely have to read it to believe it!

MATCHUP:EDITED BY LEE CHILD

MATCHUP:EDITED BY LEE CHILD takes the best of the best when it comes to mystery/thriller/suspense authors (male & female) and matches them together to come up with some really great short stories.  Each writer has taken their time out of creating their individual series to create these short stories for us, the reader.  I sailed thru this book because of my love of each of these stories.  Long enough to develop the plots well but short enough to be in this book.

A must read for any mystery lover.

TROPICAL ICE BY K.L. SMITH

TROPICAL ICE BY K.L. SMITH is an environmental thriller.   Very well researched, the author uses mystery and thriller to point out the happenings against our environment.  Dont let that stop you because this book is well worth the read!

Matt Oliver, travel writer is supposed to be in Belize for eight days to write an article on how wonderful Belize is for tourist.  He doesnt even get off the plane before finding out that there is more to Belize than just great scuba diving and super restaurants.  Oliver finds some of his friends are in the middle of a murder investigation and he gets suckered into helping them.

I had a little trouble getting started with the book because I thought that this was going to preach on global warming, overfishing , etc ,but as I got farther into the book I was pleasantly surprised at how the author took these issues, mixed in some very memorable characters, murder & intrigue  and came up with a page turning mystery.

SILENCED JUSTICE BY JOEBROADMEADOW

SILENCED JUSTICE BY JOE BROADMEADOW is a fast paced thriller/mystery. From the very first page you get car chases, attempted murders, suicides & a view of a corrupt/unfair justice system, and I loved every minute of this book!

Josh Williams, husband & cop has been asked by a friend for a simple favor.  Look into a case back from the seventies where a black man was tried and jailed for a crime.  Easy right? Wrong! People in very very high places just dont want Josh to reopen the old wounds & the case. Does that stop Josh? Nope, it just encourages him to dig more.

The pace and the flow of the book is perfect.  Not much slowing down of plot for the book, it just keeps going and going till the very end, just like Josh Williams and his determination.

NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES BY STEPHEN KING

NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES BY STEPHEN KING is a series of short& novella stories that goes back to Kings early days .  He always has said he likes short stories & in my opinion I think NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES is one of his best short stories books.  So , Constant Reader, as Mr.King calls us fans of his, fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.  Of all of his short stories I have to think my total favorite is CHATTERY TEETH which is in this book.  My son, who is also a King Constant Reader agrees.  While on vacation I happened to find a set of Chattery Teeth & brought it home as a gag present for my son!  He loved them!  So sit back, turn the lights on, put on your favorite tunes & enjoy NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES BY STEPHEN KING!

DARK SCREAMS:VOLUME SIX BY BRIAN JAMES FREEMAN

DARK SCREAMS:VOLUME SIX BY BRIAN JAMES FREEMAN .  I LOVE a good horror story!  And DARK SCREAMS gives the reader a selection of short stories written by the famous and not so famous writers.  Starting with Stephen King's "THE DUDE'S TICKER) to a novella styled story you have a good variety of stories.  If truth to tell, my favorite story here is "THE RICH ARE DIFFERENT" by Lisa Morton.

WINTER OF THE WORLD BY KEN FOLLETT

WINTER OF THE WORLD(THE CENTURY TRILOGY #2) BY KEN FOLLETT is the second in the Century Trilogy takes the reader to 1933 with the same five families, all from different countries. In this book we set the focus on the second generation & we get a deeper focus of their lives.
Spanning thru WWII, we still get to meet some very famous "real" people & meet new fictional characters, both good and bad.

I have so far enjoyed this series because I feel now that these characters are like family or friends, which is attributed to the excellence of how Mr Follett portrays them. As a historical fiction junkie I cant wait to get the time to finish the trilogy. Even though we bounce from country you will have no problem keeping up with the plot or the characters as Mr.Folliet is molding and binding them together into what I hope to be a great conclusion to the series.

EDGAR ALLAN POE: ANNOTATED & ILLUSTRATED ENTIRE STORIES AND POEMS BY ANDREW BARGER.

EDGAR ALLAN POE: ANNOTATED & ILLUSTRATED ENTIRE STORIES AND POEMS BY ANDREW BARGER.  Poe has always fascinated me for some very strange reason, and now Mr. Barger has taken the entire collection of Poe's works, illustrated them & put them in a book 800 pages plus long. Like a fine vintage wine(AMONTILLADO perhaps?), Poe is meant to be read slowly and carefully.

There are plenty of books on Poe's work but this one not only has illustrations but footnotes at the bottom of the pages helping the readers interpret  some of the words and phrases of Poe's time.

Before the author signed this book he asks "Do you know Poe?"  My answer is "Yes, more so now seeing that I have read the book . If you are in the market for one of the most complete books on such a very underrated person of his time (Poe died poor)  then this collection is the one to pick up.
