A REFUGE AT HIGHLAND HALL BY CARRIE TURNASKY

A REFUGE AT HIGHLAND HALL BY CARRIE TURANSKY is the only book I have read in the trilogy.  But it was easy to follow and could be a stand alone book.

Penny Ramsey is living with her sister and brother in law in London as the book opens.  Its 1915 and her sister and her husband have taken war orphans into their home and lives. At the beginning Penny meets and falls in love with the dashing Alex Goodwin, handsome and a pilot getting ready to fight Germans in the air.

The style and atmosphere of WWI comes out in Carrie's writing.  As a historical fiction junkie, I could see the grounds of Highland Hall as if I was there.  The people, the destruction and the lives of this fictional family came alive to me on the pages of A REFUGE AT HIGHLAND HALL.  Blended with Christian devotionals it was a breath of fresh air to me.

I received this book from goodreads in exchange for a review.
